About Us

The ArtRwanda - Ubuhanzi is a nationwide talent search project implemented by Imbuto Foundation in collaboration with the Ministry of Youth and Culture and the Rwanda Academy of Language and Culture. The project aims at identifying and supporting young and talented Rwandans within the creative arts industry. The competition consists of a televised nationwide search for creative youth in six different categories (plastic arts, dance & music, fashion, acting & drama, cinematography & photography, and literature).

In its first phase, 587 young artists, from the six categories, were selected at Province Level. From these, the top 68 best artists were identified at the national level to attend the boot-camp and later competed for the final prizes. Six artists were finally selected as winners in each category winning 1,000,000 Rwf each, along with three best projects, winning seed funding of 10,000,000 Rwf, each.

During this second edition, the initial search and auditions will take place in all districts, to ensure a wider reach. Afterward, a selection will be held at the provincial level, in Kigali to select outstanding talents from all categories, who will then proceed to the following stages of the competition.

The top 70 artists representing each category will then participate in a boot-camp prior to the grand finale, during which contestants will be linked with various experts from the creative industry to develop their individual craft, and to equip them with skills related to business development.

What We Do

We believe that Rwandan youths who have creative talents need to be nurtured further, to reach their full potential, and to create a positive impact in the creative and socio-economic development of our country.

We also see the need to address youth unemployment, which continues to be a serious issue, slowing down our national development.

Through this project, we aim to address these two problems simultaneously by recognizing and raising awareness of the talent that is widely present among the Rwandan youth, while supporting the creation of jobs and employment in the creative industry.

Black and White : These colors are a symbol of art and décor as they were used in the Rwandan culture, to create art pieces called imigongo.

Maroon : The color symbolizes confidence, creative thoughts, courage, strength, warmth, and beauty.

Paint splash : This element found running through the middle of the logo, represents art as well, mimicking an artist creatively immersed in drawing the logo.

Circle shape : This shape symbolizes unity among Rwandans, which is what we strive for through this project, identifying artistic talent and promoting it for the betterment of the Rwandan society.
